my take on shepard fairey
he's a layman's artist... arrested 14 times- usually disseminates his startling, hip images via the street and lackluster (cynical) hope for viral mass appeal. "absurdist propaganda" is his mo. he created the hope image without any affiliation with obama's campaign... obama's savvy design people caught it quickly and asked him for a slight redesign.
and an iconic image was born ;)
