Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead, on Work & Integrity.

Howard Roark's advice...

to Peter Keating-
Never ask people about your work (33).

It's I who have destroyed you, by helping you (611).
general:
Show me your achievement- and the knowledge will give me courage for mine.

I am a man who does not exist for others.

I have come here to say that I do not recognize anyone's right to one minute of my life.... It had to be said. The world is perishing from an orgy of self-sacrificing.

Pain only goes down to a certain point.

To say 'I love you' one must know first how to say the 'I.'
Dominique comments on Roark's work:
There is not a person in New York City who should be allowed to live in this building (287).
Ellsworth Toohey:
A leash is only a rope with a noose on both ends.

I don't want to be on a leash, I want to be free. And I want to own
myself, and do what I love, I want to be my own boss and a free agent... it is not in my Pisces nature to be hemmed in by anything - be it a boyfriend, employment, location -

so?

so I am reintroducing myself to myself, and every day things become more clear.

I have a brown wall...

cream...

simple...

themed set of six...

so many options!

I need help decorating my... tiny tiny tiny but beautiful & lovely apartment.

I painted one of my 4 walls "Van Buren" brown.

(the old bird would have posted it, but with my stalker issues... you understand.)

and now I am at a loss! I want to showcase my infantile art collection, but I am not sure a) which prints to put up, and b) how to arrange.

Any suggestions?

scraps from my afternoon net surfing, mostly from domino:

"Use simple modern frames—but always different, to avoid that gallery look." —Allegra Hicks

Steven Gambrell favors painted frames. Mix and match with unframed but similar art.

"Grand old oil paintings often look great out of their frames."
—Allegra Hicks

According to Miles Redd, you should frame art "however the picture dictates, but I love French mats."

The secret to displaying artwork? "Big mats and snappy but simple modern frames."

I continually read books when I need to read them - I always hear the things I need to hear - I always see the things I need to see - so why can't I believe I feel what I need to feel?

Some Rand-y quotes:

Run for your life from any man who tells you that money is evil. That sentence is the leper’s bell of an approaching looter.

The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.

Wealth is the product of man’s capacity to think.

The most depraved type of human being is the man without a purpose.

from the horse's mouth.

round two... soon. very soon.

I haven't written for ... awhile. Reasons being:

One, a potential employer, I am hesitant to write truthfully about my life. I sit down to write and a biting self consciousness seeps into my words... I write whatever I want to say, but when it comes time to cross that finish line - well, I can't bear to press "PUBLISH POST" for fear it will crop up in a future interview.... !!!! HELP!

... and two, I've had some stalker issues. Restraining order might be on the horizon...

... however, I refuse to be ruled by some fear or some concern or some worry.

in short, I apologize for my absence.

I am soliciting your advice-

how do you manage to tread that line between privacy and publication? How do you know if you are being "real" and "honest," or merely arrogant and exhibitionist?

other news:

- I GOT A JOB!

- Omar is here, in town, raising hell.

- Move into the new apartment tomorrow.

- Sir Sampson is hanging out with his dad this weekend, enjoying a few nights with the boys.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

another word from Osho.

Osho writes,

The Jains call the person arihanta who has attained to himself and is so drowned, so drunk in the beatitude of his realization that he has forgotten the whole world. The word arihanta literally means “one who has killed the enemy”—and the enemy is the ego.

When you first enter into the world of no-mind it looks like madness—the “dark night of the soul,” the mad night of the soul. All the religions have noted the fact; hence all religions insist on finding a master before you start entering into the world of no-mind-because he will be there to help you, to support you.

What if your master, the person you learn things from, the person you admire - what if he or she is an arihanta?

california dreaming.

I am back in California, and I am doing just fine! more later <3

by ee cummings.

[somewhere i have never travelled]

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skillfully, mysteriously) her first rose

or if your wish be to close me, i and
my life will shut very beautifully, suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;

nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility: whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens; only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands
